N°51 Cabane et Lac de Lhurs

Ein versteckter See in einem verlorenen Zirkus, eine grüne Oase inmitten einer mineralischen Welt... Das alles kann man sich nicht vorstellen, wenn man sich auf diese Route begibt. Zunächst verläuft der Weg auf einer schönen Piste, die ruckartig ansteigt, dann nimmt ein Pfad seinen Platz ein und durchquert im Laufe des Aufstiegs sehr unterschiedliche Stimmungen. Er beginnt mit Serpentinen im Unterholz und führt mitten durch eine Felswand. Vorsicht bei der Passage des Piquet de Lhurs: Verlassen Sie auf keinen Fall die Spur, da der Hang sehr steil ist. Es folgt ein Stück schwarzer Fels, dann wieder weißer Kalkstein und, wenn man es nicht mehr erwartet, taucht der See mit der Hütte darüber auf.

Piste
From the parking of Anapia, go back up the piste from the car park and left at the intersection (totem). Walk on this path and get back onto a piste that you need to take to go left. Continue on the flat for a bit then take a right at the entrance to the woods that looks like a river bed: steep and pebbly! Get back onto the piste higher up and continue your ascent. Ignore the left-hand piste and carry on until a clear hairpin bend.
Path
Take the path on the left that goes along the ridge line then crosses a hillside clearing. The track is once again covered and goes up to the right before a few bends get you back onto the piste. This section doesn't appear on the IGN map so don't go onto the old path (still on the map). Cross the thalweg and the terrain gets very pebbly and runs along large paving stones.
Piquet de Lhurs
Carry on and watch out for rolling stones. The grassy infiltration strip below can be very slippery. Don't venture onto it: there are cliffs below. Carry on and cross a river bed after a short descent.
At last the Lake!
Pass the black rock area (watch your ankles). The slope levels out and crosses the lapiaz. Once again flat, carry on along silty terrain until you see the lake and cabin below overlooked by the "table of the tree kings". A track goes past the lake on the right and leads to the cabin.

From the cabin, take the path towards the lake. Go round the lake and turn right along the rocks to get back onto the path in the midst of the lapiaz. Watch out for the section on the ledge as rolling stones can slip. At the bottom of the piste, don't forget to take a right onto the pebbly section just before a bend.
Sehenswürdigkeiten
The Piquet
"Piquet" means a jump, a very steep section. The old path starting from the bottom was at the Piquet de Lhurs. It was too dangerous so a new safer track goes around this section.

View of the Pic du Midi d'Ossau, the two peaks of the iconic Ossau summit (2884m) can be seen at the very back.
Griffon vulture
You can see this 6kg bird of prey with a 2.5m wingspan doing cartwheels in the air almost every day! Sometimes you can see it on the ground where it jumps clumsily to get around, far less gracious than its flight, which makes it look vulnerable.
